Forensic Psychiatry

Forensic Psychiatry is a specialized field of psychiatry that deals with the interface between mental health and the law. Forensic Psychiatrists treat people with mental disorders and are involved in legal proceedings such as criminal and civil proceedings. Forensic psychiatrists may be called upon to provide expert testimony in court, assess the mental state of defendants or witnesses, and assess a person's ability to make decisions or stand trial.

Forensic
psychiatry requires specialized training and expertise in both mental health and the legal system. Forensic psychiatrists must be knowledgeable about legal concepts such as competency, criminal responsibility, and involuntary commitment, and be able to communicate complex mental health issues to legal and general audiences.
