Over the past year, the unprecedented Ebola outbreak has galvanized research and industry responses. As we continue to search for solutions, we must reexamine lessons learned to address current challenges. Vaccine development is a long and complex process that often takes 10-15 years and requires public and private participation. The current system for developing, testing, and regulating vaccines evolved in the 20th century as interested parties standardized procedures and regulations.
